You aren't being bad

When I first speak with clients, they often come to me expressing a surprising emotion:

Guilt.

  • Guilt at not paying enough attention to the finances until now

  • Guilt for not getting an MBA education or taking business courses

  • Guilt for not knowing how to handle a difficult employee situation

  • Guilt for running their business in a way they think is “wrong”

  • Guilt for wishing they were better, but feeling like they’ve been faking it

If this is you, I want to get something straight right here and right now:

Stop it.

  • You are not being “bad” for operating in a way that has worked for you, even if it’s not ideal

  • You’re not a bad CEO just because you have to ask for help

  • You’re not faking it because you don’t feel confident

  • You’re not failing your employees because you don’t know every answer.

Running a business is one of the most challenging things a person can do.

If you’re doing it - gracefully or not - chances are, you are a Total. Badass.

Nearly every founder I meet who is running a business

Is so much more incredible than they can see themselves.

So give yourself a break.

You’re not being bad.

You’re not doing it wrong.

And if you need help, I’m here.

Have an amazing weekend and see you Monday.
