The Friday Finance Break

Good sleep is like a superpower.
I saw it while working at Deloitte amongst hundreds of other Type-A overachievers.
In a company culture so competitive that they stack ranked each person, promoted the top quartile, and fired the bottom.
The folks who won?
They were the ones that got the most sleep.
Now, you might argue that they slept well BECAUSE they were killing it.
And that’s true.
But the causation also worked in the other direction:
They could think better
They got more done
They saw the big picture
They absorbed more information
And most importantly
They made the best decisions.
Everyone else?
They were scrambling to get out of the bottom, running on fumes.
I think about this often in the context of entrepreneurship:
When you’re a CEO, you might not be surrounded by peers to compare yourself against often
But make no mistake
You ARE in competition.
Only, it’s not just your head on the chopping block;
It’s your entire company.
As CEO, the stakes are high.
You MUST be in shape to think clearly and make tough calls.
It is your Most. Important. Job.
And so, it is also your job
To go get
Some sleep.
