How Do We Celebrate?

The Friday Finance Break

(For anyone just tuning in, every Friday we take a break from the technical CFO content and talk about founder mental health. Enjoy!)

One of my favorite set of questions to ask startup teams is this:

  • How does your team celebrate wins?

And,

  • How does your team support each other through losses?

Such simple questions.

But there's something really foundational about making a plan for these situations.

And it's even more important for us to plan it out loud in the new world of remote and hybrid working.

Here's the thing:

  • If you don't plan for wins, you're less likely to have them

  • If you don't have an emotional plan for losses, you're less likely to survive them

  • And in a work environment where you can't simply suggest a post-work drink, these opportunities to define ourselves as a team don't happen unless we plan them.

In a busy startup, it can feel like there is NO time for questions like this these.

But the sooner you make time for this conversation,

The sooner you unlock the power

Of everyone around you.
