Today, a quick pivot from the Finance content to touch briefly on modern marketing.

As a founder, one of the first things many notice is how,

No matter what you're actually a rockstar in:

  • CTO

  • Finance

  • Leadership

  • Data Science

  • Merchandising

  • Investor relations

  • Project management

It almost doesn't matter.

Because no matter what,

You're a marketer and a salesperson now.

(My condolences.)

I'm sure there are a few ex-marketer CEOs who thrive in this fact

But for the rest of us, it can be a slog.

So what do you do?

Here's what works for me:

Experiments.

Do I love sales and marketing? Eh, it's okay.

But here is something I love:

Trying new stuff and seeing what happens.

Because I'm a natural nerd and a former musician

And discovery is my drug.

So, that's how I think about my marketing.

It's all about creativity, creating new opportunities, learning new things, making new friends, and watching what lands.

And since these activities are things I enjoy

The entire practice is more sustainable.

Why is it cool?

  • Introduces you to an awesome model template example you can use for your startup

  • Points out all the great parts that are helpful to borrow

  • Warns you about the stuff to use with caution

  • And it was a great opportunity to cross audiences with an experienced founder who shares my mission: Helping new CEOS build better companies.

It isn't perfect, but that's the point.

It's an experiment

And it was really fun :)
