New investors

If investors are making you feel powerless,

I invite you to remember this:

Investors are not your boss;

They are your partner.

They provided the money;

You are providing the means for making more money.

Their support of you is valuable,

But make no mistake:

If you are a high-potential startup showing good traction,

Then YOU are providing the bulk of the value in this arrangement.

Investor money is liquidity: It’s is helpful in the short term.

But that money is relatively easy.

(There is almost always cash available for ROI-positive investments.)

The kind of money you’re creating is hard.

Longterm ROI is hard.

Great companies are HARD.

So, if an investor isn’t holding up their end of the bargain,

If they’re being disrespectful or dismissive,

If they’re making your life harder,

If they’re being a tyrant,

And not a partner,

Then maybe it’s time

To find another.
