Future = Strategy
If you’re having trouble charting a winning strategy for your company
Because you’re too bogged down by the day-to-day grind of your business,
Try this:
One night, or weekend morning
(Maybe with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee)
I want you to get a notebook and write down your predictions for your industry’s future.
Where do you think your industry is headed within the next 5 years?
Think about:
Your customers
Your competitors
Your suppliers
Your talent
Your technology
Forget that you run a business in his space.
Forget what you WISH would happen.
Just look at what you know about your field and ask,
“Given what I know about all these players, where do I think this is all headed?”
When you’re done, take a beat.
Then come back to it, maybe a day later.
And ask yourself,
"Given this probable future, what could be a winning path forward for a business like mine?"
How can I retain and leverage my valuable assets?
How can I hold an advantage relative to my competition?
How can I be increasingly attractive to my customers?
How can I be excellently positioned to be compatible and additive to the newest technology?
AND
What will I invest in to lock in this path?
That’s your strategy.
Now, you can go back to work on Monday,
And start executing again,
Strategically.
