Finance Stack

Today, I'm deep in the weeds, building a quick course for a VC partner here in NYC.

They've been hearing some confusion lately among their portfolio companies

About how to set up their finance team for high growth.

Specifically, they're interested in learning:

  • What people do I actually need to hire?

  • What tools and software do I need to onboard?

It's what I typically refer to as the Finance Stack or "FinStack".

Sounds like it should be so simple!

And yet, it's not.

Here's why:

Nearly everyone you ask either has limited information

OR

Is incentivized to give you a biased answer:

  • You can ask your founder friends!

    • But what works for them likely won't be the right solution for you.

  • You can ask your investor!

    • But they likely have no experience in Finance Operations.

  • You can ask an outsourced Finance Pro!

    • But 9 times out of 10, they'll just say you need whatever they're selling 😬.

So, how do we square this circle?

Here's what I'm thinking as I create this course...

  1. Give a high-level overview of Finance Operations—what it is and how the process works.

  2. Break down common finance roles, responsibilities, and how to grow the team over time.

  3. Outline the essential tech stack that makes things work, with a method for evaluating and prioritizing.

Hopefully, I can build this out in just 3-4 slides and leave most of the time for discussion & Q&A with founders.

Does this sound like a resource that you'd also find helpful?

Give me a shout, and I can send you a personal copy of the slides once done!
