Accountant from Hell

I once worked with a client who hated her tax accountant.

He was rude, slow, expensive, and a poor communicator.

She had "inherited" him from a family connection years back

And now, she just wanted to get rid of him.

She just needed him to finish completing her most recent tax filings

Before she could hire someone else to take over.

Then things got worse:

He sensed the end was near,

And so he dragged his feet and made her life a nightmare:

  • He took even LONGER to wrap up than expected

  • He suddenly claimed the government was coming after my client

  • He said she owned tons in mysterious backtaxes

  • He insisted that her bookkeeping team was incompetent

  • He claimed that there were accounting SNAFUs he still needed to untangle

Honestly, I was flabbergasted.

I’ve worked with many accountants, and most have been fantastic.

This situation, though, really made me think about the trust we place in professionals who manage our financials.

In how much power they hold

And how it can be wielded for the worse.

Thankfully for this client, we were able to chart a path forward.

I introduced her to a new team of trustworthy accountants,

And now she’s back on track.

But it makes me wonder:

What if we hadn’t met?

Would she still be stuck with this terrible guy she couldn’t trust?

If you’re ever in a similar position, don’t wait for things to get worse.

Take control of your financial team

Before they take control of you.
